The Wedding’s Off
I
absolutely hate Desiree Jones. She is this over-enthusiastic, warm, bubbly girl
that bothers the crap outta me. I absolutely can’t stand her and if I’m gonna
have to live with her; I think I might jump off a cliff into a pit of piranhas.
She’s got this gorgeous chocolate brown hair that falls perfectly off her
shoulders and those dazzling sapphire blue eyes of hers make me wanna puke. And
don’t even get me started on her blinding neon clothes they too make me want to
hurl.
I
can’t believe our parents are getting married in three weeks. I mean seriously how could my dad do this to
me? It’s like he’s forcing me and
Desiree to get along. Has he ever met Desiree? She’s like a rainbow explosion
and if that isn’t bad enough I have to share my room with her too? I swear if she touches anything of mine, I’m
gonna sever her fingers off one by one. From
downstairs, I can hear the movers helping them move in and that’s when it hits
me: This is really happening they’re getting married.
I’m
about to start writing in my notebook when my eyes are greeted with an
electrifying rainbow who is now my new roommate, Desiree.
“Hello,
I can’t believe of all the people my mom could’ve married, she chose your dad.”
“Hi
to you too I guess. Okay before you settle into my room here are some ground rules. Don’t touch my stuff, stay to
your side of the room, and don’t bother me.”
“Well
aren’t you a pocketful of sunshine.”
When
I go down to the kitchen to get a snack I’m greeted by a bunch of boxes stacked
like building blocks. Just another reminder that Desiree is here ruining my
life; great! Bringing my snack up with
me, I return to what I think was my
room. “Ahhhhhh!!!!!! What did you do to my room? I thought I made it clear not
to touch my stuff!”
“You
never said I couldn’t decorate your room.” Desiree replied.
“I
don’t care, this is my room and you aren’t going to redecorate it!”
“Fine,
I’ll take it down after I find my box of clothes and change. Gosh you don’t
have to freak out.”
“No,
take it down now!”
“Fine,
gosh someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.”
As
Desiree takes down her blinding multi-colored neon lanterns and removes her
electric pink plush rug along with her hot pink bean bag; I fall back onto my
bed, exasperated I start texting my best friend, Ruby. Amy: “Can u believe it she just rainbowfied my room.”
Ruby:
“I can’t believe u have to share a room with her.”
Amy: “Ikr? I mean this is
my room wat was she thinking when she redecorated it?”
Ruby:
“Idk Amy but she’s bad news u should just scare the crap outta her so she’ll
beg her mom to leave.”
Amy:
“I would, but then my dad would just tell me to be nice to her. Text u later I
should defend my territory before Little Miss Rainbow explodes her colors
somewhere else”
Ruby:
“K bye”
“Who
are you texting?” Desiree asks.
I
look up from my phone and find that my room has been returned back to normal.
“Obviously
not you.”
“Gosh,
are you always like this?”
“Like
what?”
“Never
mind. Look, I don’t like the idea of our parents getting married either so you
can stop taking your anger out on me.”
“Whatever.”
Giving
me an infuriated look, Desiree stalks outta the room. Satisfied, I pull out my
notebook and add:
Amy’s Do’s

Later,
after dinner, I retreat back to my room to read. When I get there, I find a
note on my desk from Desiree. The bubbly script said, “We need to talk, meet me
in the library in 20.”
Unsure
what to do, I ignore the note and settle on my bed and start to read my murder
mystery. Twenty minutes later, I get a text; thinking it’s Ruby, I check my
phone, but instead it’s a text from Desiree saying, Desiree: “Come to the library now!” How the heck did she get my
number? Thinking it was my dad I slowly make my way down to the library which
is on the other side of the house.
I
wonder why the heck I bothered answering to Desiree after what she did to my
room earlier, but before I can change my mind and go back to the comfort of my
room, I step inside the library, and standing right there in the middle of the
library is Desiree herself.
“I
knew you’d come.” Desiree says way too happily.
“And
why is that so?”
“I
don’t know, I just got a feeling you’d come.”
“Well
consider yourself lucky, you’ve got five minutes. Talk!”
“Five
minutes?”
“You
want me to make that three?”
“Nope.
Anyways I’ve gathered you here today-
“Dude
you sound like you’re giving a speech now can you cut to the chase? You’re down
to four minutes.”
“Okay,
fine. So I have an idea on how to sabotage the wedding.”
“Wait.
What? You’re going to sabotage our parent’s wedding? And I thought I was the
evil one.”
“Yeah,
if we sabotage the wedding, then I don’t have to live with you no offense.”
“None
taken I don’t want to live with you either.”
“Anyways,
we should totally make our parents hate each other so they won’t get married.”
“I
can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I think that’s a great idea.”
“Okay
so what do we want to do first?”
“We
can plant bad things about them. Like how my dad absolutely hates it when
people unalphabetize the books in here.”
“Good,
we can mess up the order of the books then I can have my mom fetch me a book
from here then frame her for messing up the books.”
“Great,
then I can tell my dad that I can’t find where any of the books are, and then
he’ll come in here and find all the books messed up. Okay one parent down one
more to go. So what bothers your mom the most?”
“Bad
cooks.”
“Oh
that’ll be easy.”
“But
I thought your dad was a gourmet chef.”
“Oh
he is, but it’s not that hard to sabotage food. All you have to do is add too
much of something and the dish is ruined.”
“Cool.”
“Operation
Wedding’s Off is in action. I guess that makes us PIC’s.”
“PIC’s?”
“Yeah.
Partners In Crime.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.
Race you back to the room first one that gets there gets the bathroom first. On
you mark get set go!”
Desiree
dashes out of the room. When she’s gone I pull the book Doomed off the shelf and the book shelf slides to the side
revealing a secret passage that leads straight to my closet; which thankfully I
don’t have to share with her because I have two closets one on her side of my
room and the one on my side which is connected to the library.
I
arrive there with five minutes to spare so I check my phone for my texts.
There’s one from Ruby and one from my boyfriend Josh, I decide to check the one
from Ruby first it says,
Ruby:
“U haven’t texted me back yet. R u dead? Did Little Miss Rainbow kill u with
one of her million watt smiles?”
I
text her back, Amy: “Nope sabotaging
the wedding. Text u later she’s coming.”
Desiree
walks into the room looking exhausted like she just ran a marathon and says, “How’d
you get here so fast?”
“Magic.”
“Who
were you texting?”
“Your
mom.”
“Really?”
“No.
Why would I text your mom when she’s standing right behind you?”
Desiree
quickly spins around to find no one behind her.
“So
I guess since I beat you, I get the bathroom first.”
“Yeah
go ahead; I have to unpack my clothes anyways.”
When
it’s Desiree’s turn to shower I crawl under my covers and look at the text from
Josh. It says, Josh: “Hey having fun
with Desiree?”
I
text him back, Amy: “No she
redecorated my room earlier and it looked like a neon explosion.”
Josh: “Haha.
I’ve gotta see this.”
Amy: “Too
late I made her put it back to the way it was.”
Josh: “Really
y?”
Amy: “Must
I explain?”
Josh: “Haha,
no.”
Amy: “She’s
back text ya later.”
Josh: “Okay.”
When
Desiree comes out of the bathroom I leap out of bed.
“Oh
I almost forgot to feed my pets. You wanna help?”
“Sure.”
I
walk over to one of my two mini fridges and pull out a bag of mice frozen and
lifeless.
“What
is that?”
“Jade‘s
dinner.”
“What
does Jade eat?”
“Mice.”
“No
really what does Jade eat?”
“Mice.”
“Y-you
weren’t kidding about the mice?”
“Nope.”
“You
said pets. How many pets do you have?”
“Only
two.”
What’s
your other pet’s name then?”
“Fuzzball.”
“And
what does Fuzzball eat?”
“Crickets.”
“Eek!”
I
take the cover off of Jade’s cage and drop a mouse in there for her. Then,
after making sure her cage is closed tight I show Desiree Fuzzball and feed him
his daily ration of crickets. I go off to the bathroom to wash my hands and
come back to find Desiree lying in her bed staring at the empty black walls of
my room.
I
ask her a question I never thought I’d ever ask her, “Do you have a boyfriend?”
“No.
Do you?” Desiree replied.
“Yeah
Josh Watson. How do you not have a boyfriend? You look like you came outta a
magazine?”
“I’ve
turn down every guy that’s asked me out because I don’t like any of them.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“Is
there anyone you like in particular?”
“Well,
there’s that guy who is running for student body president.”
“Who?
Asher Colby?”
“Yup.”
“Oh.”
After
that, we don’t talk we just lie there. Twenty minutes later, Desiree is sound asleep
so I decide to text Josh back…
